A client asked HaugaardBraad to assess the legality of how the utility company calculated its connection charges. Their assessment revealed that the company’s methods were not in compliance with the applicable rules and that the utility had been collecting charges in excess of what was lawful for almost a decade.

As a result, Brønderslev Forsyning adjusted its method of calculating charges and began reimbursing the affected customers.

As a matter of general public and legal importance, the assessment demonstrated the importance of a regular evaluation of the legality of utility company methods of calculating charges. A clear and accurate legal review can both protect the rights of all parties while also building trust in the public sector.

This project was handled by attorney Katrine Dons Kvottrup and assistant attorney August Reinhold.
