The Port of Aalborg has entered into a 30-year exclusive agreement with the Norne Carbon Storage Hub, which will build reception facilities for carbon dioxide emissions in the harbour area. It will become part of a major CO₂ value chain which is also expected to include a CO₂ capture facility and pipelines to Danish CO₂ storage facilities. The aim is to make Aalborg a central hub for carbon dioxide emission transportation and storage in northern Europe.
The project includes a commercial agreement laying down terms and conditions for the collaboration between the parties and the lease of the area, which will provide the basis for establishing facilities to handle CO₂ emissions for storage. The agreement is an important step in the development of the Port of Aalborg’s role in the green transition and is supported by funding from the EU's CEF programme.
Strategic partnership with international reach
The collaboration between the Port of Aalborg and Norne/Fidelis is an example of how public infrastructure and international investments can work together to accelerate the establishment of CO₂ infrastructure in Denmark.
HaugaardBraad provided the Port of Aalborg with legal advice throughout the entire process, from drafting the contract to negotiating the legal framework of the agreement.
The project was managed by attorney Katrine Dons Kvottrup.
